Exploring the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club (CBCC): A Premier Destination for Croquet Enthusiasts

Located in Hartfield, Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club (CBCC) is recognized as the largest croquet facility in the world. It has long been a hub for both casual players and serious competitors. Whether you are new to croquet or an experienced player, the club offers a range of opportunities to participate, learn, and enjoy the sport. The club is approximately a 15-minute drive (about 10 miles) from the Tiny Blue Houses in Deltaville, making it a convenient visit for tourists in the area.

A Hub for Croquet and Lawn Bowling Enthusiasts

CBCC has hosted numerous leagues, tournaments, and training camps over the years, providing a welcoming space for both social and competitive play. The club regularly organized social events and instructional programs, including free croquet lessons and game play every Sunday at 1 PM from May through November. Additionally, free lawn bowling lessons were available on Tuesdays at 10 AM from May to November and at 1 PM from December to April.

Hosted the 2024 Golf Croquet World Championship

In October 2024, CBCC had the honor of hosting the 15th World Croquet Federation Golf Croquet (GC) World Championship. This prestigious event, sanctioned by the United States Croquet Association (USCA) and the World Croquet Federation (WCF), brought together 80 elite players from 23 countries. American champion and CBCC member Matthew Essick defended his title in this highly competitive tournament.

“This is the premier event in world croquet,” said CBCC Pro Macey White at the time. “Modern croquet is not the old backyard game. It is an international sport that requires skill and intelligence.”

The tournament began with a qualifier event on October 13, followed by an official practice and welcoming ceremony on October 17. The championship concluded on October 26, featuring a series of round-robin and knockout rounds that determined the world champion.
